My visit to Mexico City was very brief as I only had one week off from teaching. I took advantage of the Turibus, a double-decker bus service that makes a circuit from the historic center and into trendy neighborhoods. The bus allows tourists to conveniently visit attractions throughout the city. It also provides several channels of an audio guide in different languages accessible with headphones.

As an independent traveler, I've always resisted using these types of buses.  However, with such a limited time in-country, the Turibus ended up being immensely useful. Sitting on the upper deck of the bus provided me with a beautiful view of the city. I marveled at the architecture, the bright colorful houses and enjoyed the beauty of each street lined with flowering trees.

I hopped on to the Turibus at the stop Fuente de La Ciebeles only a few blocks away from the Airbnb apartment I was staying in. Other passengers boarded the bus and we were off. Among the original group of passengers was a well dressed young couple. I was surprised when they quickly hopped off at the next stop, only a few blocks away from the original pick up zone to go to a bakery.

The Turibus continued on its circuit and I hopped off from time to time to visit some of the attractions. The Turibus passes each of the stops about every half hour which meant that when you hopped back on you would join a different group of passengers.  I began to notice that my adventures would continuously place me back on a Turibus with the young couple.

I approached the pair and started a conversation about my next stop, the Centro Historico de Coyoacan. Mariana gave me a big smile and told me they would alert me when to hop off as they were intending to stop there as well. Mariana and Abraham were sweet and eager to show me around the area and pointed me in the direction to Frida Khalo's Casa Azul.

Here is Mariana and Abraham's Love story:
